Predictors of pediatric anterior cruciate ligament injury: The influence of steep lateral posterior tibial slope & its relationship to the lateral meniscus

Edwards TC, Naqvi AZ, Cruz ND, et al. - In this study, the association between posterior tibial slope & lateral meniscal bone angle (LMBA) on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear risk was examined in a pediatric population. Researchers compared 20 study patients with 20 gender & age-matched controls (mean age 14.8 ± 2.42). They estimated sagittal slope asymmetry as the absolute difference in degrees between slopes & the relationship between LMBA & lateral posterior tibial slope (LTS) was estimated as a ratio. Independent predictors of ACL injury were distinguished by binary logistic regressions. Predictive accuracy was ascertained by performing receiver operator characteristics. This research implies LTS, absolute slope variation & LTS:LMBA ratio are significant pediatric ACL-injury risk factors. Although the association between steep LTS & shallow LMBA was the strongest predictor, all three demonstrate good predictive accuracy.
