Adolescent emergency contraception usage, knowledge and perception

Contraception Jan 16, 2021

Williams BN, Jauk VC, Szychowski JM, et al. - Researchers aimed at determining the current usage patterns, knowledge regarding and perception of emergency contraception in adolescent patients. They approached 261 female patients visiting the Pediatric and Gynecology Clinic for participation in a survey concerning emergency contraception. Complete responses were obtained from 253 of these females with a mean age of 16.7 ± 1.7 years. Findings suggest that in this population, despite awareness regarding emergency contraception, there were only a small portion adolescents who had used it themselves. This population often had misunderstandings concerning the availability and safety of emergency contraception.
