Comorbidity burden in long‐term breast cancer survivors compared with a cohort of population‐based controls from the MARIE study

Cancer Dec 05, 2020

Möhl A, Orban E, Jung AY, et al. - Using data from a German breast cancer case‐control study, researchers investigated if comorbidity burden differed between breast cancer survivors and population‐based controls after long‐term follow‐up. To quantify severe comorbidities, a modified Charlson Comorbidity Index was computed. In the follow‐up 12 years post-recruitment, there were 1,925 cases and 3,674 controls. According to findings, a rise in the comorbidity burden over time was observed in long‐term breast cancer survivors and controls, however, following 12 years of follow‐up, the comorbidity burden in both groups was comparable.
