Azawi NH, Subhi Y, Tolouee S, et al. - Via performing a nationwide population-based retrospective cohort study, the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after nephrectomy in Denmark was investigated and the associated risk factors were explored. From January 2010 to August 2018, 5,213 patients were reported to be nephrectomized. They identified postoperative VTE incidence of 1% and 2% within 4 weeks and 4 months, respectively. This suggests rare occurrence of postoperative VTE for nephrectomy. Following were identified as important risk factors: open nephrectomy, history of VTE, length of hospital stay, and lymph node dissection. These factors should be evaluated when tailoring VTE prophylaxis regimens.
