Effect of combined physical training on cognitive function in people with epilepsy: Results from a randomized controlled trial

Epilepsia Jul 04, 2020

Feter N, Alt R Hafele CA, et al. - In this research, the impact of a 12‐week exercise program on cognitive function was analyzed in people with epilepsy. Researchers randomly assigned a total of 21 physically inactive individuals into two groups: the exercise group (EG) or the control group (CG). In this study, CG was advocated to maintain the usual daily activities. The first evidence that combined physical training improves executive function in adults with epilepsy was provided by this randomized controlled trial, exhibiting main improvements in attention and language tasks. The findings revealed that for people with epilepsy, physical exercise should be encouraged to decrease the burden on cognitive function correlated with this disease.
