Altered structure and functional connectivity of the central autonomic network in idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behaviour disorder

Journal of Sleep Research Jul 05, 2020

Li G, Chen Z, Zhou L, et al. - In this study, the central autonomic network (CAN) in individuals with idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behaviour disorder (iRBD) was evaluated applying combined voxel‐based morphometry and resting‐state functional connectivity analysis and characterized the associations between alterations of the CAN and autonomic symptoms. Researchers acquired MRI data from 65 individuals (32 patients with iRBD and 33 matched healthy controls). It was shown that in patients with iRBD, both the structure and the functional connectivity of the CAN were abnormal. In addition, in iRBD, correlation analysis implied that CAN abnormalities may also play a role in the establishment of autonomic symptoms.
