Therapeutic effect of heat-sensitive moxibustion plus medications for senile osteoporosis and its effect on serum BMP-2 and OPG levels
Journal of Acupuncture and Tuina Science Jul 01, 2020
Li J, et al. - Researchers investigated if heat-sensitive moxibustion plus medications can be clinically effective for senile osteoporosis (SOP), as well as they focused on the associated mechanisms. Participants were 70 elderly patients with osteoporosis. Participants were randomized to an observation group and control group, with 35 cases in each group. Conventional drugs were administered to the control group, and the observation group was managed with heat-sensitive moxibustion on the basis of the conventional drugs. Both groups received treatment for 3 months. Findings revealed the effectiveness of heat-sensitive moxibustion plus medications for SOP in terms of significantly relieving patients’ pain, improving dysfunction, and increasing bone density, which may be associated with the betterment of the serum bone morphogenetic protein-2 as well as osteoprotegerin levels.
