Efficacy of traditional Chinese Medicine combined with chemotherapy in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC): A meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials

Supportive Care in Cancer Jul 01, 2020

Yang J, Zhu X, Yuan P, et al. - Whether Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) combined with chemotherapy affords an efficacious option for the management of non-small cell lung cancer was systematically assessed via this meta-analysis, and evidence-based evidence was afforded for the same. Clinical literature on Chinese medicine for managing non-small cell lung cancer was identified by exploring China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database, Wanfang Database, PubMed, and Cochrane Library, from January 2005 to October 2019. Selected studies were randomized controlled trials (n = 20) with 1,669 cases of non-small cell lung cancer, including 845 in the experimental group (TCM plus chemotherapy) and 824 in the control group (chemotherapy alone). Based on the findings, TCM combined with chemotherapy was shown to be able to bring about improvement in clinical efficacy and Karnofsky Performance Status score, as well as this treatment strategy afforded improvement in patients’ quality of life and decreased adverse drug reactions induced by chemotherapy drugs.
