Hepatitis B virus infection and the risk of cancer among the Chinese population

International Journal of Cancer Jun 05, 2020

Tian T, Song C, Jiang L, et al. - A large case‐control study was intended to evaluate whether and how hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection status is associated with multiple cancers. Researchers consecutively recruited Cases (N = 50 392) and controls (N = 11 361) from 2008 to 2016 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. They calculated multivariable adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) applying logistic regression by adjusting age and gender. both the case‐control study and meta‐analysis verified the significant correlation of HBsAg seropositivity with stomach cancer, intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct carcinoma, pancreatic cancer, non‐Hodgkin lymphoma and leukaemia. The data also implied that the risk of stomach cancer raised for people who ever exposed to HBV.
