Presence of leucocytes in prostatic secretions correlates with the severity of lower urinary tract symptoms
Andrologia May 06, 2020
Lee MH, Lee C, Choi JH, et al. - This study was attempted to assess whether and how the presence of leucocytes in expressed prostatic secretion is associated with lower urinary tract symptom severity. Researchers retrospectively examined a total of 699 men with lower urinary tract symptoms. Individuals were assessed by the International Prostate Symptoms Score and the Overactive Bladder Symptoms Score and who had undergone expressed prostatic secretion testing. They classified individuals into groups 1 and 2 based on the expressed prostatic secretion leucocyte count. Evidence revealed that Voided volume and maximum flow rate exhibited the strongest association, although International Prostate Symptoms Score question 7 and Overactive Bladder Symptoms Score question 2 were the only independent prognosticators of expressed prostatic secretion. Thus, leucocytes in expressed prostatic secretion are correlated with the lower urinary tract symptom severity, especially nocturnal urination symptoms.
