Perioperative complications within 30 days of hypospadias surgery: Results from NSQIP-pediatrics
Journal of Pediatric Urology Apr 22, 2020
Jiang DD, Chakiryan NH, Gillis KA, et al. - In this study, perioperative complications of hypospadias repairs were identified from the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program Pediatrics (NSQIP-P) to aid in patient counseling. Between 2012 to 2017, NSQIP-P database was used to conduct a cohort study. Researchers distinguished and compared pediatric patients undergoing hypospadias surgery based on 4 major categories: distal/midshaft repair, one-stage repair proximal, stage one repair, and stage two repair. They further compared baseline demographics between the four groups and perioperative parameters. Using multivariable logistic regression analysis models including type of repair, correlations with overall complications, infectious complications, and dehiscence were ascertained. This study presented large multi-institutional analysis of 30-day peri-operative hypospadias repair complications; this information is feasible especially for patient counseling and education.
