Krishnan N, et al. - The present study was undertaken to compare the PERC-tic technique, described as placement of dual wires under fluoroscopic guidance adjacent to the stone within the obstructed calyx, to standard percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) with working wires secured down the ureter. Researchers designed a retrospective cohort study to include individuals who had undergone a PCNL procedure between October 2016 and November 2018. This research compared the PERC-tic technique with standard PCNL. Regression models were applied to analyze whether PERC-tic PCNL was correlated with equivalent stone-free rates to standard PCNL at 90 days, necessary for secondary procedures, and 90-day hospital readmission. A 126 PCNL cases were included of which 63 were done applying the PERC-tic technique and 63 with standard PCNL. The data demonstrate similar stone-free rate at 90 days and higher rates of secondary procedures after PERC-tic PCNL in comparison with the standard approach; nevertheless, no difference was found in complications. These data may reflect reduced visualization with the PERC-tic technique or simply be reflective of the case difficulty requiring the use of the PERC-tic technique. When considering this technique for complex stone disease, these findings can be applied for patient counseling
