Crippa J, Grass F, Achilli P, et al. - Researchers sought to determine risk factors for conversion in a cohort of patients with rectal cancer undergoing minimally invasive abdominal surgery. In this retrospective analysis, they performed assessment of 600 adult patients undergoing low anterior resection or abdominoperineal resection for primary rectal adenocarcinoma by a minimally invasive approach. The overall conversion rate of 9·2% was reported. A threefold higher risk of conversion was observed in obese patients vs non‐obese patients. A lower risk of conversion was observed in correlation with robotic surgery in both obese and non‐obese patients. As per the multivariable analysis, patients undergoing robotic surgery had a 72% lower risk of conversion.
