Bijur PE, Friedman BW, White D, et al. - Given the efficacy of intravenous (IV) acetaminophen as an adjuvant analgesic in postoperative settings, researchers examined its role in the ED. In this two‐arm, double‐blind randomized clinical trial, 1 mg of IV hydromorphone was administered to all patients. Then, these patients were administered either 1 g of IV acetaminophen or placebo. As per outcomes, neither clinically meaningful nor statistically superior analgesia was achieved with the addition of 1 g of IV acetaminophen to 1 mg of IV hydromorphone vs hydromorphone alone.
