Whittaker E, Read SH, Colhoun HM, et al. - Among 264,011 people [mean (sd) age of the study population was 66.7 (12.8) years] with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Scotland, researchers explored the connection between socio‐economic status and prevalence of key cardiovascular risk factors. According to this cross‐sectional study, socio‐economic deprivation is linked to higher prevalence of smoking, BMI ≥ 30 kg/m² and HbA_1c ≥ 58 mmol/mol (7.5%), and lower prevalence of total cholesterol ≥ 5 mmol/l in people with T2D in Scotland. Efficient strategies are required to reduce inequality, as well as to reduce the prevalence of risk factors across the entire population.
