Hsu CY, Chinchilli VM, Coca S, et al. - Researchers carried out a multicenter prospective cohort study including 4 clinical centers in North America recruiting a total of 1538 individuals, enrolled 3 months after hospital discharge between December 2009 and February 2015 to estimate the correlation of post-acute kidney injury (AKI) proteinuria with increased risk of future loss of renal function. In this study, 769 (50%) had AKI during hospitalization among 1538 individuals. In the post-AKI period, the proteinuria level is an important risk-stratification tool. These outcomes imply there should be more widespread and routine quantification of proteinuria after hospitalized AKI.
