Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate is safe and feasible as a same day surgery
Urology Mar 09, 2020
Lwin AL, Zeng J, Phung MC, et al. - This study intended to evaluate the safety, feasibility and treatment outcomes of holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) as a same-day surgery (SDS). Between November 2013 and December 2018, HoLEPs conducted at our institution were reviewed retrospectively. This study recruited a sum of 377 individuals, involving 199 SDS and 178 non-SDS individuals. For HoLEP, same-day outpatient surgery was found to be safe in individuals who live in close proximity and have Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group status 0-2. It was demonstrated that the readmission rate and complication rate are comparable to those reported in the literature with markedly decreased LOS. The long-term functional result is not yielded by same-day surgery.
