Shh overexpression is correlated with GRP78 and AR expression in primary prostate cancer: Clinicopathological features and outcomes in a Chinese cohort

Cancer Management and Research Mar 06, 2020

Zhang X, et al. - In this study with 539 patients, including 443 cases of primary prostate carcinoma and 96 of benign prostatic hyperplasia, researchers explored the correlation of Shh with GRP78 and AR, given a crucial role of Shh in prostate cancer progression. They found that prostate cancer with Gleason scores ≥ 7, in comparison with cancer with lower Gleason scores or benign hyperplasia, demonstrated a significantly higher Shh expression. They also noted that AR-positive cancer vs AR-negative cancer exhibited a much higher Shh expression. High-grade prostate cancer showed Shh overexpression. Experts observed a positive correlation of Shh with the expression of both GRP78 and AR. Overall, the likely usefulness of Shh as a prognostic marker as well as a treatment target for prostate cancer was suggested.
