Sarcopenia and type 2 diabetes mellitus as predictors of 2-year mortality after hospital discharge in a cohort of hospitalized older adults

Beretta MV, et al. - Researchers examined if comorbid sarcopenia and type 2 diabetes (T2D) predicts mortality after 2 years of hospital discharge in older patients compared with non-diabetic controls. In this prospective study, they included 610 patients hospitalized between July 2015 and December 2017; of these, 306 (51%) had TD2. Among those with T2D, the mortality rate of 28%. The coexistence of T2D and sarcopenia in older patients was independently correlated with a higher risk of mortality after hospital discharge compared with controls.
