Evaluation of lower urinary tract symptoms in children with down syndrome: A prospective, case-controlled cohort study
Neurourology and Urodynamics Jan 30, 2020
Kızılay F, İrer B, Kızılay DO, et al. - Researchers sought to correlate the voiding symptoms of DS children with a control group by validated questionnaires. In this study, they enrolled 37 DS children without any previous urological complaints and 59 non-DS healthy children as a control group. They analyzed overactive bladder symptoms and dysfunctional voiding with validated Overactive Bladder Questionnaire (OAB-V8) and Dysfunctional Voiding Symptom Score questionnaire, respectively. They arranged data to perform descriptive and comparative statistical analyses. Compared with the normal population, DS children have more frequent dysfunctional voiding. They demonstrated that the ID of these children may prevent the expression of these symptoms. Information and early detection of these indications are crucial to prevent devastating complications such as renal failure. Hence, questionnaires are validated to be simple, useful, and noninvasive methods.
