Narrow band imaging might contribute to the diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux

Wu D, et al. - Among 56 laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) outpatients and 41 symptom-negative controls, researchers examined the role of narrow band imaging (NBI) in LPR diagnosis. All people received reflux symptom index (RSI) and reflux finding score (RFS) scores and had 24-hour multichannel intraluminal impedance-PH (MII-pH) monitoring and endoscopic NBI before and after treatment. The authors discovered that 51 LPR and six control individuals had sparse light brownish dots or tufted light brownish dots in the postcricoid region. Data reported that the RSI and RFS positivity rates, respectively, were 31.3% and 87.1%. NBI is as powerful as the RFS and has poor consistency with the RSI. It was concluded that NBI has a good diagnostic value for LPR.
