Clinical Infectious Diseases Jan 16, 2020

Cotte L, Veyer D, Charreau I, et al. - As HIV-infected vs HIV-negative men having sex with men (MSM) are more frequently affected by HPV infection, researchers sought to report on HPV infection in PrEP-using MSM. They prospectively enrolled HIV-negative MSM who were enrolled in ANRS Ipergay PrEP study. They enrolled 162 participants. At baseline, the prevalence of any-HPV was 92%, 32% and 12% at the anal, penile and oral sites, respectively. The most frequent high-risk (HR) genotypes at the anal site were HPV 53, 51 and 16, at the penile site were HPV 33, 39 and 73 and at the oral site was HPV 66. Risk of HPV infection was similar among PrEP users vs HIV-infected MSM, the risk was much higher than previously reported in HIV-negative MSM.
