Oncostatin-M is a prognostic biomarker and inflammatory mediator for sepsis
The Journal of Infectious Diseases Jan 16, 2020
Gong Y, Yan X, Sun X, et al. - Researchers investigated the role of oncostatin-M (OSM) in sepsis. They assessed septic patients for serum OSM level on the day of intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Septic patients vs ICU patient controls and healthy volunteers exhibited significantly higher serum OSM levels on the day of ICU admission, which were linked to the severity of sepsis, including parameters such as the Sequential (Sepsis-related) Organ Failure Assessment score, procalcitonin level, and white blood cell number. Findings thus suggested the potential prognostic value of increased production of OSM for sepsis.
