Efficacy and safety of testosterone treatment in men: An evidence report for a clinical practice guideline by the American college of physicians

Annals of Internal Medicine Jan 14, 2020

Diem SJ, Greer NL, MacDonald R, et al. - Investigators evaluated the benefits and harms of testosterone treatment for males without underlying organic causes of hypogonadism. They analyze data from 38 randomized, controlled trials of at least 6 months' duration. Mostly older males who varied in age, symptoms, and testosterone eligibility criteria were involved. In all, they found that in older men with low testosterone levels without well-established medical conditions known to cause hypogonadism, testosterone therapy may offer small improvements in sexual functioning and quality of life but little-to-no benefit for other customary symptoms of aging.
