BMC Nephrology Jan 14, 2020
Wyngaert KV, Van Craenenbroeck AH, Eloot S, et al. - By performing this cross-sectional multicentre analysis, researchers assessed the links between objective and subjective measures of physical function, risk of falls and Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL) among patients on maintenance haemodialysis. Participants were 113 in total with mean age of 67.5 ± 16.1 years, and 57.5% were male. Most of these exhibited impaired quadriceps force (86.7%) and six-minute walking test (92%), and an increased risk of falls (73.5%). According to the findings, compared with muscle strength, lack of coordination and balance, as testified by the risk of falls, contributed more to social isolation and HRQoL of haemodialysis patients. Less than expected prevalence of mental fatigue was reported, whereas, reduction in subjective and objective physical function was evident.
