Postoperative respiratory complications and disposition in patients with type 1 laryngeal clefts undergoing injection or repair – A single institution experience
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Jan 06, 2020
Harris VC, Dalesio NM, Clark J, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective chart review to identify incidence and factors correlated with respiratory complications after type 1 cleft repair. Participants in the study were individuals (n = 55) who had cleft repair over a 5-year period performed by a single surgeon. Findings revealed that there was no connection between repair type and desaturation. In children with cardiac and pulmonary comorbidities, respiratory events following type 1 laryngeal cleft repair occurred early in the postoperative period. It indicates that postoperative admission may only be needed for a small group of patients undergoing type 1 cleft repair. Further research is required, however, to determine the same-day discharge criteria.
