Lokhandwala A, Hanna K, Gries L, et al. - In this study, researchers examined how preinjury statins affect outcomes in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients. Their TBI database from 2014 to 2017 yielded data of 1,359 patients. Of these, they matched 270 patients (statin: 90, no-statin: 180). Patients administered statins exhibited lower rates of in-hospital mortality (11% vs 21%), skilled nursing facility disposition (19% vs 28%), and a higher median Glasgow Outcome Scale–Extended (11 [9-13] vs 9 [8-10]). These findings auggest an association of preinjury statin use with improved outcomes in isolated traumatic brain injury patients.
