Analgosedation during flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy: Comparing the clinical effectiveness and safety of remifentanil vs midazolam/propofol

BMC Pulmonary Medicine Dec 13, 2019

Lee H, et al. - Researchers performed this retrospective study to compare remifentanil with midazolam and propofol in terms of clinical efficacy and safety, given there exists limited data about the effectiveness and safety of remifentanil sedation for diagnostic bronchoscopy. Participants were a total of 186 patients who underwent diagnostic bronchoscopy at Chonbuk National University Hospital. Based on the drugs used during bronchoscopy, the participants were grouped into the remifentanil group and midazolam/propofol group. In the remifentanil group, a higher proportion of patients underwent more invasive procedures as compared with the midazolam/propofol group, but no significant difference in safety events was evident between the groups. Faster recovery time was observed in patients in the remifentanil group vs those in the midazolam/propofol group.
