An updated meta-analysis of prostatic arterial embolization vs transurethral resection of the prostate in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia
World Journal of Urology Dec 13, 2019
Xu XJ, et al. - Investigators selected nine studies contrasting prostatic arterial embolization (PAE) with transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) involving a total of 860 individuals with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) for this updated meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of PAE vs TURP and to examine whether PAE could be suggested as a routine therapy for BPH. In the advancement of postoperative IPSS, QOL, PV, Qmax, PAE was inferior to TURP and TURP still persisted to be the golden standard. Nevertheless, in the treatment of BPH individuals who decline surgery or with surgery contraindication, PAE may be a relevant option to TURP.
