Zhu Z, et al. - From the 2005–2008 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a total of 5,604 candidates (aged 40 years and older) were involved to explore the connection between age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and subjective cognitive complaints (SCCs) in the USA using multivariate regression analyses. Compared with participants without AMD, those with any AMD had a higher prevalence of SCCs. Presence of any AMD was significantly related to 1.62-fold higher odds of having SCCs after adjusting for potential confounding factors. Likewise, after controlling for confounders, candidates with early and late AMD were also linked to high chances of reporting SCCs. In this US population, significant connections were found between AMD severity and SCCs. Subjective memory function and potential risk of cognitive decline among AMD patients should be given more attention.
