Accelerated epithelium-off corneal collagen cross-linking for keratoconus: 12-month results

Clinical Ophthalmology Dec 11, 2019

Omar IAN, et al. - In patients with keratoconus [mean age was 28.4 ± 8.6 years (18 to 37 years)] who were followed for 12 months, researchers conducted this prospective interventional non-randomized case series study to report visual, refractive, topographic, and aberrometric outcomes of accelerated CXL and to illustrate the significant parameters that can be used in follow-up. In the period between April 2016 and July 2018, 40 keratoconus eyes of 40 individuals have been analyzed. All eyes have been examined preoperatively and post-accelerated CXL to assess visual acuity, refractive state, keratometric values, keratoconus indices, and corneal higher order aberrations (HOAs). In addition to keratometric readings in the follow-up of eyes treated with accelerated CXL, keratoconus indices particularly ISV, IVA, and KI along with HOAs particularly vertical coma, spherical aberrations, and trefoil can add value.
