Boutros J, Muzzone M, Benzaquen J, et al. - The case of an 83-year-old individual in whom a follow-up chest CT scan, for a lingular consolidation, exhibited multifocal ground glass and consolidative opacities with areas of low attenuation, indicative of exogenous lipid pneumonia (a rare lung condition because of the inflammatory reaction produced by the presence of foreign fatty substances in the alveoli) was presented. History of piascledine capsules (avocado/soybean unsaponifiables) intake for 20 years and hiatal hernia with documented gastroesophageal reflux disease was noted. Following a thorough history taking, no other predisposing factors were discovered. The diagnosis was validated using oil red staining of bronchoalveolar lavage manifesting lipid-laden macrophages and extracellular lipid droplets. In summary, this was the first case of ELP secondary to avocado/soybean unsaponifiables in the literature.
