Francesca M, Marina AM, Natalia BL, et al. - Researchers analyzed data from children (0-10 years) and adolescents (10-18 years) having a history of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) reactions and who had a full allergy workup including drug provocation tests (DPTs) with the culprit drug in six different pediatric centers (Belgrade, Florence, Geneva, Madrid, Porto, and Rome), to define and compare the diagnostic workup amongst different European centers as well as to determine the real proportion of NSAIDs hypersensitivity (HS) by performing a DPT with the culprit drug. This study included 693 children with a history of NSAIDs reactions and 526 DPTs were conducted with the culprit NSAID. Regarding the duration of the DPT and the practical use of skin tests for diagnosing NSAIDs HS, major variations were seen in the allergy workup across the six centers. Findings revealed that despite the use of distinct approaches around Europe to diagnose NSAIDs HS, the percentage of verified NSAIDs HS was less than 20%. This indicates the significance of the DPT in verifying or eliminating NSAIDs HS in the pediatric population.
