Pang KP, Vicini C, Montevecchi F, et al. - In this retrospective case-series analysis involving 217 individuals, mean age was 43.9 ± 12.5 years, mean body mass index was 25.9 ± 4.7, mean preoperative apnea-hypopnea index [AHI] was 30.5 ± 19.1, follow-up 41.3 months, researchers studied long-term complications of newer reconstructive palate surgery techniques. Complications involved were constant and/or felt twice per week; dry throat, throat lump feeling, throat phlegm, throat scar feeling and swallowing problem. Findings revealed that there was no incompetence of the velopharyngeal, taste disturbance, or change of voice. Compared with the older ablative techniques, newer palatal techniques have shown to have less long-term complications.
