Relation of total sugars, sucrose, fructose, and added sugars with the risk of cardiovascular disease
Mayo Clinic Proceedings Dec 06, 2019
Khan TA, Tayyiba M, Agarwal A, et al. - A total of 24 prospective cohort comparisons were included in this study of the relationship of total and added fructose-containing sugars and cardiovascular (CVD) incidence and mortality. Overall, the researchers’ findings supported a threshold of harm for consumption of total sugars, added sugars, and fructose at higher exposures, and lack of harm for sucrose independent of food form for CVD mortality. Additional study on different food sources of sugars, however, is needed to better define the relationship between sugars and CVD, noted the researchers.
