Ten-year treatment outcomes of radical prostatectomy vs external beam radiation therapy vs brachytherapy for 1,503 patients with intermediate-risk prostate cancer

Urology Dec 06, 2019

Goy BW, et al. - Using propensity score matching, a retrospective analysis was conducted on 1,503 intermediate-risk prostate cancer (IRPC) individuals who underwent treatment from 2004 to 2007 in order to contrast 10-year oncologic treatment outcomes of radical prostatectomy compared with external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy (BT) for people with IRPC. Following adjusting for age and Charlson comorbidity index, no notable variations in metastases-free survival or prostate cancer-specific survival were noted. For IRPC cases, BT, using Iodine-125, used alone or in combination with supplemental external radiation, was discovered to be a feasible treatment choice, thus, generating comparable rates of metastases-free survival and prostate cancer-specific survival.
