Groeneveld GH, van ’t Wout JW, Aarts NJ, et al. - In a prospective observational cohort study in three radiology departments in the Leiden-The Hague area, The Netherlands, done from March 2012 until May 2016, experts investigated predictive signs, symptoms, and biomarkers for the presence of pneumonia in people with acute respiratory tract infection in primary care. Nearly 250 people were involved, of whom 30 demonstrated a consolidation on chest X-ray. According to findings, the prognostication of pneumonia is not enhanced by adding CRP measurements to a clinical model in selected individuals with an acute respiratory infection; however, it does aid in providing guidance on which people to treat with antibiotics.
