Hwang V, Mendez E, Chow LQM, et al. - Given the demonstrated activity of immune checkpoint inhibitors in recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell cancer, researchers sought to determine their long-term sequelae. Four patients who developed complications requiring surgical intervention after complete responses to anti–PD-1 therapy are described in this work. Patient 1, a 57-year-old female, had marked tumor regression that exposed some mandibular hardware. Patient 2, a 39-year-old male, developed an ulcerated buccal lesion with exposed mandible. Patient 3, a 66-year-old male, had craniofacial osteoradionecrosis. Patient 4, a 71-year-old male, developed an exposed and fractured mandible. Surgical intervention was successfully undertaken in all patients; the patients remained disease-free following surgery.
