Results of a 6-week treatment with 10 mg prednisolone in patients with hand osteoarthritis (HOPE): A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial

The Lancet Nov 18, 2019

Kroon FPB, Kortekaas MC, Boonen A, et al. - In the Hand Osteoarthritis Prednisolone Efficacy study, a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of adults who had symptomatic hand OA and signs of inflammation (n = 149) in their distal and proximal interphalangeal joints from rheumatology outpatient clinics at two sites in the Netherlands, experts examined the efficiency and safety of short-term prednisolone in individuals with painful hand OA and synovial inflammation. For the treatment of people with painful hand OA and signs of inflammation, treatment with 10 mg prednisolone for 6 weeks was concluded as effective and safe. Moreover, for persons with hand OA who report a flare-up of their disease, the results of this study give clinicians a new short-term treatment choice.
