Chae MK, et al. - Researchers examined the predictive value of initial total cholesterol for neurologic outcomes among postcardiac arrest patients. In this retrospective observational study involving 35 out-of-hospital-cardiac arrest survivors who had serum cholesterol levels at admission, poor neurologic outcome was reported in patients with cholesterol lower than 7 mg/dL, with a specificity of 100%. Based on these findings, the researchers suggested that initial cholesterol levels are easily obtained biomarkers that may assist in assessing neurologic outcomes among postcardiac arrest patients.
