Jiwani SS, Carrillo-Larco RM, Hernández-Vásquez A, et al. - Through a cross-sectional series analysis of obesity predominance by socioeconomic status done by using of national health surveys carried out between 1998 and 2017 in 13 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, experts identified the predominance of obesity among adult men and women in Latin America and the Caribbean through socioeconomic measures and the shifting obesity burden over time. A total of 479,809 adult men and women were involved in the analysis. The rise in obesity predominance in the Latin American and Caribbean region corresponded with an uneven distribution and a shifting burden across socioeconomic groups. Moreover, among low socioeconomic groups, the prospect of the establishment of obesity could give chances for societal gains in primordial prevention.
