Physical exercise and body-mass index in young adults: A national survey of Norwegian university students

BMC Public Health Nov 06, 2019

Grasdalsmoen M, et al. - Data stem from the SHoT study, a national student health survey for higher education in Norway, carried out at 4-year intervals to characterize the level of physical exercise and BMI in college and university students, as well as to investigate potential changes from 2010 to 2018. Overall, in 2018, students were less exercised than in 2014, but comparable to 2010. The results reveal that the vast majority of young adults do not comply with international exercise guidelines and that the proportion of excess weight is rising in both genders and in all age groups. Findings indicated that there is an immediate need for a broad approach to helping college and university students to become more involved in achieving a paradigm shift.
