Lin KP, et al. - Researchers undertook this quasi-experimental study in the geriatric ward of a referral centre in northern Taiwan, to determine how readmission rates in elderly patients could be influenced by a comprehensive geriatric screen (CGS) in the early admission course followed by a comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA). The geriatric screen group included 377 older adults (aged > = 65 y/o) who were admitted from June 2013 to December 2013. The historical group included 380 patients who were admitted to the same ward from July 2011 to June 2012. Within the first 48 h following admission, CGS was delivered, which was followed by CGA. As per findings, a significant reduction in the 30-day readmission rate in elderly patients may be achieved by performing an early CGS followed by a CGA.
