Understanding those overdue for cancer screening by five years or more: A retrospective cohort study in Ontario, Canada
Preventive Medicine Oct 22, 2019
Lofters AK, et al. - Researchers undertook this inquiry in Ontario in order to define the population who were screen-eligible for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers but overdue by at least five years. For this purpose, they used provincial-level administrative data. They found that among screen-eligible Ontarians for each of breast, cervical and colorectal screening respectively, non-receipt of screening for five years or more was reported by more than one-fifth, despite the presence of three provincial organized screening programs. Living in lower-income neighbourhoods, being recent immigrants, not having a primary care provider, having a provider who practiced in a traditional fee-for-service model, were all related to a significantly greater likelihood of having no recent screening history, as revealed in multivariable analyses.
