Dental anxiety in schoolchildren with molar incisor hypomineralization — A population-based cross-sectional study
International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry Oct 13, 2019
Menoncin BLV, Portella PD, Ramos BLM, et al. - Among 731 schoolchildren (aged 8 years) from the city of Curitiba, Brazil, researchers used Poisson regression analysis with robust variance to explore the connection between parental reports of dental anxiety (DA) and molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH). A cross-sectional study was carried out in a representative sample of schoolchildren, who were clinically investigated for MIH diagnosis and dental caries using the EAPD criteria and dmft/DMFT index, respectively. A significant correlation between DA and MIH was identified, but when adjusted for the other characteristics this association lost its importance. Findings suggested an association of caries experience in primary teeth with lower levels of DA. Due to pain, the most recent visit to the dentist raised the levels of DA. Overall, the authors concluded that parental reports of DA were not associated with the presence of MIH in schoolchildren.
