Clinicopathological evaluation of the programmed cell death 1 (PD1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) axis in posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders: Association with Epstein–Barr virus, PD-L1 copy number alterations, and outcome

Histopathology Oct 11, 2019

Veloza L, Teixido C, Castrejon N, et al. - Programmed cell death 1 (PD1)/programmed cell death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression was investigated in 50 people with posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders, and the relationships with PD-L1 copy number alterations (CNAs), Epstein–Barr virus (EBV), clinicopathological characteristics and outcome were assessed. In posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorders, the PD1/PD-L1 axis was deregulated along with many PD-L1 expression and PD1 negativity. PD-L1 expression was correlated with EBV latency II or III and PD-L1 CNAs and apparently highlighted a proinflammatory tumor microenvironment. Moreover, of EBV status and PD-L1 expression, the combined analysis could aid to recognize profoundly immunosuppressed individuals who could profit from immune reconstitution strategies.
