Aminian A, Zajichek A, Arterburn DE, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study of 13,722 individuals (comprising 2,287 patients who underwent metabolic surgery and 11,435 matched controls), experts examined the correlation between metabolic surgery and incident major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in individuals with T2DM and obesity. At the end of the study period, A primary endpoint was experienced by a total of 385 individuals in the surgical group and 3,243 in the nonsurgical group. Statistically important variations in favor of metabolic surgery exhibited by all seven prespecified secondary outcomes including mortality. In 112 individuals in the metabolic surgery group and 1,111 in the nonsurgical group occurrence of all-cause mortality was noted. Hence, in comparison with nonsurgical management, metabolic surgery was correlated with a significantly lower risk of incident MACE amongst individuals with T2DM and obesity. Moreover, the findings from this observational study should be validated in randomized clinical trials.
