Eke R, et al. - Using data from the National Inpatient Sample database from 2005 to 2014, researchers conducted this nationwide population-based study to ascertain estimates and predictors of inpatient colorectal cancer (CRC) screening during hospitalization in the USA. From 129,645,394 inpatient hospitalizations, there were 6,470 inpatient CRC screening nationwide. Among hospitalized patients admitted to US hospitals, the CRC screening rate is low. No association of differences were found in racial, household income or health insurance status with inpatient CRC screening. A unique method of increasing cancer screening rates is provided by noninvasive screening methods in hospitalized patients such as stool-based fecal immunochemical examination.
