Risk factors associated with food insecurity in the Medicare population

Madden JM, Shetty PS, Zhang F, et al. - Researchers demonstrated detailed national estimates of food insecurity prevalence within the Medicare population. Food insecurity is described as the incapability to get sufficient food for mainly financial causes. Relationships between food insecurity and worse health outcomes have been assigned to inadequate nutritional consumption, trade-offs between food and medical treatment, and functional impairments. Moreover, Medicare enrollees, who are 65 years or older or who have long-term disabilities, are particularly prone to food insecurity.
