Long-term success durability of transobturator male sling

Urology Sep 29, 2019

Chua ME, Zuckerman J, Mason JB, et al. - Through a nonconcurrent study carried out on all transobturator male sling cases (n = 215) done from August 2006 to June 2012 by a single surgeon, experts ascertained the long-term outcome of transobturator sling for male stress urinary incontinence (SUI) clustered according to preoperative SUI severity, and recognized predictors of treatment success strength and occurrence of failure in long-term follow-up. On long-term follow-up, 150 and 96 patients-maintained treatment success and were dry, respectively. According to SUI severity as mild, moderate, and severe, the long-term outcome success clustered was 84.7%, 72.3%, and 51.6%, respectively. Kaplan-Meier with Log-rank test and Multiple Cox-regression discovered—independent predictors of long-term durability of treatment success and failure occurrence were concomitant urge incontinence and preoperative SUI severity. The only predictor of long-term cure sustainability was preoperative SUI severity. Hence, it was ascertained by the time to event analysis with an average of ∼5 years postoperative follow-up that the independent predictors for long-term outcomes were the preoperative severity and presence of concomitant urge incontinence.
